Ingrown Hairs
In some cases, chin acne is also caused by ingrown hairs. Shaving can lead to ingrown hairs. Men often have a higher chance of developing chin ingrown hairs compared to women. On the other hand, any person can get chin ingrown hairs or anywhere else on their body or face.
A hair that regrows back into the skin instead of out of it is referred to as ingrown hair. If this happens, the ingrown hair might look like a pimple, swell up, turn red, and even become sore.
A chin hair that has been waxed or tweezed may regrow at an angle, missing the follicle’s opening. As a result, it will be caught under the skin, culminating in ingrown hair.
Infected hair follicles can result in bumps and sometimes even stinging lesions that look like a cyst. Even if it’s possible to treat the infection with an acne spot treatment, this doesn’t address the issue that hair is actually lodged under the skin. Using exfoliants, trimming hair close to the skin, and undergoing hair removal treatments are the best ways to prevent chin acne caused by ingrown hair.
