Certain Types of Medications
Diuretics, sometimes known as water tablets, are prescribed to treat edema, congestive heart failure, and high blood pressure. The body excretes excess fluid through the urine when using diuretics. Chlorthalidone and hydrochlorothiazide are two medicines used to treat edema and high blood. These medicines are said to impact a patient’s electrolyte levels.
Bumetanide and furosemide are examples of short-acting loop diuretics. Diuretics boost the body’s excretion of several electrolytes through the urine, including salt, chloride, and potassium, which results in a charley horse. Another medication is iron sucrose which can help treat anemia or those with low blood cells. This medication is said to cause a charley horse to a patient taking this, especially at night.
Conjugated estrogens are used to treat conditions, including hot flashes, osteoporosis, and breast cancer. It is estimated that up to 14% of people taking it may develop cramps. Raloxifene is a medicine used to treat and prevent osteoporosis and complications from breast cancer, and up to 12% of people taking it may have the possibility of a cramps.
