Eases Anxiety
Anxiety is a relatively common condition. According to the United States National Institute of Mental Health, around 19% of American adults and 32% of adolescents experienced or are experiencing anxiety disorders. However, only around a quarter of these cases are considered severe. Most are mild or moderate cases, which means some home or DIY solutions may work.
One option worth considering is chamomile tea. This herbal beverage is often listed as one of the best tea substitutes for people with anxiety. A 2007 study published in the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology shows that chamomile and hops can potentially significantly inhibit glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) activity. GAD is an enzyme known to limit GABA synthesis. The reduction of GABA levels in the body is common among anxiety patients.
The study’s findings suggest that chamomile tea can help address mild and, to some extent, moderate cases of anxiety disorder. A regular habit of drinking this herbal beverage can prevent the worsening of both idiopathic anxiety and cases associated with health problems. It is important to stress, however, that chamomile tea is not a treatment. Consulting a mental health professional is necessary to get the most suitable solution.
