Old Age
Cellulites seem to be an inescapable reality among older people. A study published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology revealed that cellulite emergence usually precipitates skin aging among women aged 30 years and older.
The study, however, points out that premature aging accelerates the appearance of cellulites, and this should be prevented. If premature aging is addressed, it is possible to delay the onset of cottage cheese skin. Fortunately, premature aging is a preventable and controllable condition.
Premature skin aging is linked to a person’s exposure to the sun and harsh lighting. The ultraviolet light from the sun makes skin age much faster than it would naturally. This is called photoaging and is believed to be responsible for nearly 9 in every 10 noticeable changes on the skin.
Another cause of premature skin aging is smoking. Habitual smoking raises the production of tropoelastin and matrix metalloproteinases in the body. This results in the skin degradation of collagen, proteoglycans, and elastic fibers. In addition, cigarette smoke has an adverse effect on dermal connective tissues. When this happens, skin aging accelerates and makes cellulite’s development easier.
