Health Conditions
There are health conditions that make people predisposed to cellulite, and these are mostly related to gaining weight. Obesity, for example, does not directly cause cellulite formation but facilitates the greater noticeability of “orange peel” skin. Once obesity is adequately addressed, the cellulite is reduced or completely goes away. Some people may require skin removal operation to get rid of the excess skin that remains after someone loses significant amounts of weight.
People with thyroid problems can also become overweight and see increased cellulite formation in their bodies. If they do not have a genetic predisposition to cellulite, they might become overweight and still have skin that does not have the bumps and lumps associated with cellulite. It is the same even if they manage to work on their muscle tone and ensure that their connective tissues are intact and their skin collagen levels are at their optimum. A proper diet and regular physical activity may help.
Other conditions like Prader-Willi syndrome and Cushing syndrome make it difficult to lose weight, thereby making it hard to prevent the appearance of cellulite. In addition, the intake of certain medications, particularly antidepressants, anti-seizure, antipsychotic drugs, beta-blockers, and steroids, can also result in weight gain.
