Excessive Use of Gadgets
In the digital age, gadgets have already become part of daily life. People from different age groups use them for more than five hours daily, mainly when engaged in online gaming or working in online jobs. However, electronic gadgets like mobile phones, tablets, laptops, computers, and other devices transmit light. These produce and emit blue or HEV light (high-energy visible light). Overexposure to this damages the eyes making it one of the leading causes of macular degeneration (eye disease affecting central vision) and retinal damage (affects vision and sometimes results in blindness.)
CVS, or Computer Vision Syndrome, is a condition usually diagnosed in people working in front of computer screens for long hours. This results in dry eyes, high sensitivity to light, eye strain, severe headaches and migraine, constant sleep disruptions, and in some cases, myopia (nearsightedness.) Increased screen time dries the moisture in the eyes and could damage the blood vessels. Without proper rest in the eyes, inflammation, and irritation occur. To avoid prolonged harm to the eyes, protect them by using filters, computer screen protectors, and daytime and nighttime light glasses.
