Blepharitis
It is a common eye disorder that dramatically affects the eyelids. The eyelids are reddish, irritated, and itchy. It forms scale-like particles hanging in the eyelashes. Due to the damage in the eyelids, the vision becomes blurry, the eyes turn red and inflamed, they become sensitive to light, and there is an utterly painful feeling all over the parts of the eyes. This is caused by exposure to bacteria, clogged oil glands, allergies (from food, water, chemicals, animals, environmental pollutants, and even makeup spread in the face), viral infections, tiny insects getting into the eyes, or certain skin conditions.
Blepharitis can be classified into two: Anterior and Posterior. Anterior Blepharitis occurs when bacteria on the skin or dandruff and tiny particles from the eyebrow, scalp, and hair get into the eyelids. It affects the outer part of the eye where the eyelashes are attached. Posterior Blepharitis happens when the eyelid oil glands get clogged or abnormally produce oil. As a result, the edge of the eyelids closest to the eyes is inflamed.
Blepharitis is not contagious and can be easily treated. When the crusts in the eyelids are correctly removed, the inflammation decreases and eventually heals.
