Endophthalmitis
Endophthalmitis refers to the severe inflammation of the tissues within the eye. Different microorganisms cause this serious disease, usually bacteria such as Staphylococcus species and gram-negative bacteria. Fungi like Candida Aspergillus can also bring about this intraocular condition. It is contagious when caused by microorganisms, but there are instances when it is non-infectious,
Blurring or decreased vision is one of the most notable symptoms of endophthalmitis. This may also come with pain along with worsening swelling and red eyes. This eye condition, however, is unlikely to be the reason for a sudden onset of vision blurring because it usually happens as a complication of eye surgery and blood-borne infection. It rarely appears because of bacterial or fungal infections affecting normal healthy eyes.
To test if vision blurring is caused by endophthalmitis, it is necessary to see a physician. The medical professional will conduct a physical examination for this. Sometimes, diagnostic medical sonography or ultrasound may be conducted. If an infection is suspected, the patient is referred to a specialist for intraocular fluid culture to be taken along with related lab studies.
