Bleeding Disorders
Bleeding disorders are a group of blood clotting issues that cause prolonged and heavy bleeding after an injury. In some cases, bleeding may also happen on its own, as it is in a subconjunctival hemorrhage.
Several types of bleeding disorders are caused by varying factors, from medication treatments to underlying illnesses. For example, long-term antibiotics and anticoagulant medications may result in unusual bleeding. Bleeding disorders are also sometimes caused by severe liver disease or vitamin K deficiency. But most bleeding disorders are inherited; some come with symptoms at birth, while some develop later in life.
Like any systemic condition, the proper treatment is based on the diagnosis. People with bleeding disorders must identify what is causing them and correct them accordingly.
According to studies, hereditary bleeding disorders are most likely to cause a subconjunctival hemorrhage. Anyone who is an easy bleeder may suffer from a blood spot until the condition is addressed.
