Rough Rubbing
The eyes can go red when it is rubbed too hard. But subconjunctival hemorrhage is not the only reason eye specialists typically discourage people from rubbing their eyes.
Frequent or chronic eye rubbing causes minor scratches on the cornea. Over time, those scratches may accumulate and cause more severe damage.
