Pregnancy
Women can be vulnerable to bleeding gums during their pregnancy. Bleeding gums signify pregnancy, so women should notice if other symptoms like nausea and tenderness happen. There are several reasons why pregnancy can cause gum problems. First, there are hormonal changes. When a woman is pregnant, the body floods with various hormones to prepare for childbirth. One result of this is more blood flow, leading to bleeding gums. Another change that can result in bleeding gums is the composition of saliva. One change is that saliva can be more acidic, damaging the gums. Combined with lower saliva production, the gums will be more susceptible to infection. Finally, morning sickness can be horrible for a woman’s oral health. Regular vomiting means that the mouth becomes very vulnerable to damage.
Pregnant women should prepare themselves to change their habits. One step is to buy a soft-bristled toothbrush, so it doesn’t irritate the gums. Another change would be in the diet. Fewer sugars and more vitamins can significantly improve the gum health of a pregnant woman. These changes will have to stay for some time after the pregnancy.
