Hemophilia
It is a popular belief that bleeding gums is a symptom of hemophilia. However, the truth is that the disorder only increases the chance of it from happening. It is a genetic disease that makes bleeding more likely. Even a small amount of plaque can irritate the gums enough to start the bleeding. An average person would typically not suffer from bleeding gums if they were in the same state as a hemophiliac.
Additionally, the gum bleeding will not stop until something removes the plaque. Therefore, dental treatments should be done as soon as possible to prevent future bleeding. The dentist will mainly clean the plaque away, but it will be up to the hemophiliac to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
Anyone who has hemophilia should be more aware of their dental health. Hemophiliacs should make it a habit to brush their teeth regularly to avoid any plaque buildup. They should also be more careful when brushing or flossing so that the gums are safe. Additionally, they should pay attention if there is any sign of blood after brushing their teeth.
