Late-Stage Liver Disease
The liver is already the cause of black vomit because of enlarged blood vessels. However, the liver can cause bleeding on its own with various late-stage liver diseases. The liver is the body’s filter and gets rid of many toxins. It does this by having blood pass through it for cleaning. The blood builds up in the surrounding veins when it malfunctions, like cirrhosis. The high pressure causes them to burst, so the bleeding ends up in the digestive system. Depending on where the blood goes, it can become black vomit or black stool.
Liver diseases also have additional symptoms that can indicate them. The earlier signs of liver conditions include nausea, fever, and unexpected weight loss. As it progresses, a variety of worse symptoms appear. For example, jaundice, the skin and the whites of the eyes getting a yellow tint, is very common and a sign of toxin buildup in the body. Another alarming symptom is swelling in the various parts of the body as fluids build up in them because the liver is not processing them.
