Bed Bug Poop or Fecal Marks
Despite being almost invisible threats, bed bugs leave behind little signs of their presence. However, aside from blood stains, bed bugs also leave some markings of partially digested blood or bed bug poop. These droppings clearly show that bed bugs are present in the surroundings. Since bed bug bites do not immediately manifest in the skin, spotting fecal marks is a giveaway symptom that there are bed bugs that have bitten a host.
Fecal marks left behind by bed bugs are like ink dots from the pen’s tip. They are darker and smaller than the abovementioned blood stains. Since bed bug poop is just digested blood, it contains a lot of iron. Because of this, they appear as black or dark brown spots with an unpleasant and rust-like odor.
Bed bug poop is usually found in bed sheets, headboards, walls, curtains, carpets, and pajamas. However, they also pooled in areas near the hiding spots of bed bugs, so following the trail of bed bug poop might lead to the actual harborage areas of bed bugs.
