Allergic Reactions
The body’s nervous system naturally fights off foreign substances like bacteria and viruses that can bring harm to the body. However, sometimes, the nervous system reacts defensively, even to substances that are not harmful, like peanuts, soap, pollen, honey, or eggs. The faulty reaction of the nervous system is called an allergy. Allergic reactions are the nervous system’s way of reacting to allergens. They are sensitivities to foreign substances that come in contact with the nose, eyes, respiratory and digestive tracts, and skin. Allergens can be swallowed, pooled, injected, touched, or inhaled.
People experiencing allergic reactions might sneeze continuously, have watery eyes, or have itchy skin. Red spots and swelling are also indications of an allergic reaction. These allergic reactions, when uncontrolled and untreated, can lead to balanitis. For example, people allergic to spermicides or latex condoms can develop balanitis during or after sexual intercourse. Allergic reactions to antibiotics, pain relievers, and other medications can also cause inflammation in the tip of the penis. Some soaps and body wash can also trigger an allergic reaction, especially if they are not washed off properly.
