Uncircumcision
The root cause of balanitis is not getting circumcised. Circumcision is a surgical procedure that removes the foreskin or skin covering the head of the penis. Research shows that circumcision can help prevent certain health conditions like STDs, UTIs, penile cancer, and balanitis. The procedure dates back to the time of the ancient Egyptians, who believed it was a way to keep the male genital clean.
The foreskin can trap dead skin, sweat, and urine which can be a breeding ground for bacteria, yeast, and other microorganisms. The accumulation of these can lead to inflammation, irritation, and several types of infection. So, by having the foreskin removed, the collection of microorganisms is less likely to happen. In addition, removing the foreskin exposes the tip of the penis or the glans, making it easier for men to clean their penis.
Circumcision does not only prevent balanitis from happening. In fact, it is also one of the most effective cures for recurring and severe balanitis cases. Although this procedure is more common among young boys, older men can still get circumcised.
