Poor Posture
Most people would not believe that poor posture could lead to osteoarthritis. But, according to experts, chronic bad posture puts abnormal continuous stresses on the body. The constant stresses make it harder for the muscles to remove the pressure from the joints. The situation is common among people who use their computers for work.
More doctors today focus on the link between increased biomechanical tension and stress in the neck’s nerves, bones, and muscles and abnormal head posture. For example, sitting in front of the computer for long hours causes people to have a forward head posture. The doctors connect this unnatural position to increased spinal arthritis, disc herniations, pinched nerves, neck pain, and headaches.
Spinal arthritis is a form of osteoarthritis due to the wearing down of the spine, causing degenerative disc disease. It could also cause disc bulges, and bone spurs, because of the forward head posture. Therefore, people should always be aware of their posture while using the computer because the abnormal head position increases the tension on the spine and the joints. While the pain may take some time to develop, the effects of arthritis would be permanent.
