Scleroderma
Scleroderma is a rare condition, specifically a set of diseases involving the hardening and tightening of the skin. It can cause the connective tissues around your body to harden and thicken, resulting in pain and swelling. Typically, scleroderma starts with the hands and the feet, as well as the face. In the beginning, the symptoms aren’t too bad as it only includes some swelling and itchiness, and of course, painful ankles. Unfortunately, scleroderma can grow to the point where it affects the body’s organs outside the skin and the joints. For example, lung scarring (pulmonary fibrosis), a harrowing condition with plenty of health issues, can occur due to scleroderma. Heart disease can also occur due to the hardening and tightening of connective tissues around the body. At the same time, the group of rare diseases also works to weaken your muscles.
Scleroderma can be a challenge to treat, and the treatment depends on the diagnosis and the symptoms. Doctors can make a prescription to help treat the lungs, kidneys, heart, skin, and more. Scleroderma can cause ankle pain, but it’s capable of far worse.
