Punch Excision Surgery
A skin transplant from another part of the body, usually behind the ear, is used to fill the area where the scar was removed. In this technique, the skin tissue around the acne scar is not damaged when the punch tool is utilized to remove the acne scar’s foundation. Leveling out the skin’s texture elevates the scar and reduces its overall look.
Punch excision is a quick operation frequently utilized to remove acne scars. A dermatologist excises individual scars, and the incisions are subsequently stitched or covered with skin grafts. In some cases, patients also receive additional treatments, like laser therapy.
This treatment treats hyperpigmented or elevated acne scars like keloids, however, any hyperpigmentation connected to an acne scar cannot be treated by punch excision.
Although the scars are smaller, softer, and less visible than the initial atrophic scars, punch excision for acne scar repair typically leaves some scarring that looks more like a thin line than a depression.
