Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy can treat deep hypertrophic scarring on the back. The skin’s temperature will be dramatically lowered throughout this process, and blood flow to the area around the scar will be restricted.
In this scenario, cryotherapy aims to cause cell death in a scar, causing it to peel off. This step might require observing any noticeable improvement at a dermatologist’s clinic multiple times. Cryotherapy is said to be ideal for hypertrophic scars.
Hypertrophic scars and keloids can be completely removed with cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen, which also considerably improves their clinical look.
The low temperatures during cryotherapy sessions restrict blood flow and result in intraluminal thrombus development, a precursor to anoxia and tissue necrosis. In addition, the effectiveness of this procedure is significantly influenced by the age and size of the scar – younger and smaller scars respond to cryotherapy the best.
Cryotherapy is much more successful than alternative techniques for highly vascularized lesions 12 months younger compared to intralesional injections of corticosteroids. Two to three cycles of cryotherapy are usually done during each session, with each cycle lasting under 25 seconds.
