Problems in Swallowing
Acid reflux means that stomach acids enter the esophagus. While they are not acidic enough to severely damage the esophagus, they can build up over time. People who suffer from GERD will have constant exposure to stomach acid. It will leave the esophagus tender and hurting. The result is that people will have a difficult time swallowing. Eating will become painful. The throat will hurt as solid foods go down the throat, and even liquids might affect the tender tissue inside.
There are also additional problems like people coughing up food and the sensation of something being caught in the throat. It is an uncomfortable sensation for those who have it. The primary way to treat way is for a person to adapt their diet. Soft and liquid foods are preferable, along with slow eating. People can also get medication like proton pump inhibitors that will help with the damage to the esophagus. If the acid reflux doesn’t get proper treatment, the swallowing problems will only worsen.
