Peppermint
Peppermint is an aromatic herb commonly used to add color, flavoring, and fragrance to food, cosmetics, and other similar products. Peppermint leaves have a strong, sweet odor that has a pungent aftertaste that makes the mouth area feel refreshed. Peppermint is a hybrid of spearmint and water mint and is commonly cultivated in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Peppermint can be a natural cure-all for people who suffer from GERD. Acid reflux affects the esophageal lining, and the stomach and peppermint have several analgesic compounds that can soothe the pain quickly. However, doctors also recommend observing how the body reacts to peppermint when ingested because, for some people, peppermint can have the opposite effect. Instead of providing stomach and pain relief, some people experience discomfort due to their body’s reaction to its compounds.
To prevent heartburn symptoms, doctors recommend drinking warm peppermint tea an hour before a meal. Another way is to take a glass of warm water, add a drop or two of peppermint oil, ½ teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, and a teaspoon of Manuka honey and drink the concoction. People can also rub peppermint oil topically to reduce bloating and other reflux symptoms.
