12 Natural (At Home) Remedies For Acid Reflux

Baking Soda

Baking soda is known as sodium bicarbonate, a white powder known for its alkaline or basic properties. The substance becomes activated when the powder is mixed with an acidic element or with a liquid. When activated, it produces carbon dioxide and causes food to rise.

Health experts categorize baking soda as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as a direct food additive. They also state that baking soda is safe to use as an antacid and can be used as an anti-caries active ingredient under certain conditions.

One of the ways to use baking soda to ward off GERD symptoms is to add ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of lukewarm water and mix it thoroughly. Then, all the person needs to do is to drink the concoction to neutralize the stomach acids that can cause gastric discomfort. Although it doesn’t taste nice and may have a gooey appearance, it does its job quickly. However, doctors warn not to use baking soda within two hours of drinking other prescribed medications. This is because baking soda can slow down the absorption of various compounds and affect how other substances work within the body.
