Spicy Foods
Most people enjoy the taste of spicy foods, which can make people eat more than usual. Eating spicy food is a tradition in some cultures, such as Korea, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Mexico, and parts of China, particularly Sichuan.
Several studies showed that spicy foods could cause people with the gastrointestinal disorder to experience burning symptoms and abdominal pain.
Some studies suggest that spicy foods can cause burning symptoms and abdominal pain for those who have a functional gastrointestinal disorder. Capsaicin, the chemical compound in chilies, is what makes food spicy. While chilies make certain dishes flavorful and tasty, capsaicin can irritate the esophagus, causing acid reflux.
Of course, not all people who consume spicy foods have acid reflux, but for those who develop the condition, one of the best things to do is to avoid foods with high levels of spiciness. For one thing, capsaicin slows digestion, meaning the food stays in the stomach longer. It causes the stomach to produce more gastric acid, increasing the possibility of acid reflux.
