Ginkgo Biloba
Ginkgo biloba can help treat vitiligo by bringing the color back to the skin through the re-pigmentation of the skin cells. Three types of disorders result in vitiligo: immune system defects, genetic disorders, and psychological disorders.
Although various treatments exist, there is no cure for vitiligo. However, it is possible to treat vitiligo by using natural remedies such as vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements. Ginkgo biloba is one such herbal remedy that has been used to treat vitiligo.
Ginkgo biloba contains flavonoids, terpenes, quinones, and phenylpropanoids. These compounds work together to inhibit or deactivate enzymes that destroy melanin. It also increases blood flow to aid in the pigmentation of damaged skin tissue and prevents further cell damage.
Also, ginkgo biloba does not react directly with melanocytes (the cells in the skin that produce pigment) but instead works indirectly by increasing blood flow to the affected skin area. Increased blood flow carries oxygen, vitamins, nutrients, and hormones to melanocytes, stimulating them to produce more pigment to re-pigment the skin.
