Numbness or Tingling in the Hands and Feet
Numbness or tingling in the hands and feet is a common symptom of vitamin deficiency. The symptoms are caused by a reduced sensation of pain, which can lead to serious injury if the individual does not notice that they have injured themselves.
Vitamin deficiency can result in numbness and tingling in the extremities due to a lack of sensation. These symptoms are called peripheral neuropathy and affect nerve fibers that transmit information between the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord) and peripheral nerves in arms, legs, hands, and feet. The specific cause is different for each vitamin deficiency. Still, symptoms usually include numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, loss of muscle reflexes, muscle weakness, unsteady gait, headaches, difficulty walking, or even paralysis.
