Laser Tonsil Cryptolysis
Tonsillar crypts are pockets or folds that naturally occur in the tonsils. These crypts appear as lines in the tonsils where the edges of their folds meet. These folds are normal in the human anatomy. However, they can trap bacteria and become a nuisance since they hold food particles, mucus, and other debris.
Tonsillar crypts are signs that a person cannot maintain proper oral hygiene. Since these folds house bacteria in the mouth, they prompt the crypts to be filled with bacteria when a person does not engage in oral hygiene activity.
Cryptolysis is a procedure that removes the tonsil crypts to prevent bacterial build-up, which can cause tonsil stones. Undergoing laser tonsil cryptolysis means that the partial part of the tonsil is removed. Unlike other procedures, a part of the tonsil is removed to avoid having tonsil stones permanently. Therefore, the tonsils are partially removed but not the whole tissue itself.
In laser tonsil cryptolysis, pain is significantly experienced but only for a few days. Most people who undergo this procedure can resume normal diet and activity after a week. Usually, the recovery days of surgery last for two weeks, especially in the tonsils and other internal parts.
