The 13 Causes of Swollen Lips (You Should Definetly Be Aware Of)

Environmental Allergies

Almost all people get exposed to the surroundings 24/7, especially those working outside their homes that constantly need to travel from one place to another. In addition, people are exposed to different dirt and dust particles from crowded places, like schools, markets, public transportation, and stores. Though several people still wear face masks, shields, or any form of health protection, it does not guarantee freedom from environmental pollutants. There are substances in the environment that can trigger allergies. These include pollens, dirt, dust, high winds, tiny furs, or particles shed by animals (also called pet dander), mold spores, cold air, smoke exhaust from vehicles, or cigarette and tobacco. Upon direct or indirect contact with these pollutants, an allergic reaction may trigger ranging from mild to severe. It can manifest through sudden wheezing, sneezing, blocked nose, swelling of the lips, and others.

A person suffering from swollen lips may treat it with over-the-counter drugs like antihistamines or those that may be purchased in pharmacies. However, a medical practitioner often advises for serious cases of environmental allergies to get multiple allergy shots (also known as immunotherapy), so the body can adjust to the allergens.
