Muscle Aches
Muscle aches, or myalgia, are fairly common, and nearly everyone has and will experience the discomfort at one point or another. Since muscle tissue exists all over your body, it’s possible to feel the pain anywhere. Moreover, there isn’t a single cause or trigger for it. While injury and overuse are the two most common reasons for the onset of pain, there are many other explanations for the ongoing discomfort.
Often, those with muscle aches can pinpoint its cause. The reason is that most of the time, myalgia results from extreme levels of physical activity, stress, and tension. However, there are also cases where the pain is caused by medical conditions, such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, myofascial pain, viral and bacterial infections, autoimmune disorders, specific medications, thyroid problems, and hypokalemia.
In the majority of cases, muscle pain responds positively to home remedies. Some actions you can do to alleviate myalgia are resting the affected areas, using over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen and other pain relievers, and applying ice or a cold compress to reduce inflammation. In addition, gently stretching your muscles, avoiding strenuous activities, and practicing meditation and other relaxing activities are ways to keep pain at a minimum.
