Sores, Bumps, or Blisters on Penis, Anus, or Mouth
A sore can be a symptom of an STD in men, but not all sores indicate this. The most common STDs that cause sores are genital herpes and syphilis. These STDs can cause sores to form on the genitals, urethra, anus, or in the mouth. Herpes is caused by a virus and is spread through sexual contact. It can infect men and women, although the disease causes far more discomfort for women than it does for men.
The herpes virus stays in the body after symptoms have gone away, so the individual is contagious even if they aren’t experiencing any symptoms. Syphilis is caused by bacteria and is also spread through sexual contact. It can take several years for syphilis symptoms to appear in a person infected with the bacteria. While it isn’t known to cause long-term damage if treated early, it can lead to permanent damage if left untreated.
