Allergic Reaction and Atopic Dermatitis
People with sensitive skin may react to skin irritants harshly. For example, some perfumes, lotions, soaps, detergents, and creams may irritate the nipples and skin around the breast, causing itchiness and soreness. They may also cause certain skin conditions to flare up, like contact and atopic dermatitis.
Contact dermatitis may cause irritation, itchiness, and soreness because of exposure to allergens and irritants. This condition is common among patients with sensitive skin and existing skin conditions. In addition, professionals like mechanics, artists, florists, and healthcare providers, who are dealing with possible irritants have higher risks of developing contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis may occur in different body parts, including the face, hands, arms, and breasts. Patients may experience burning, stinging, and painful sensations around the infected areas. Swelling, scaling, and blistering may also occur.
Atopic dermatitis or eczema is linked with the reaction of the body’s immune system against allergies and irritants. As a result, it weakens the skin’s barrier, leading to dryness, itchiness, and bumpiness in the affected area. New moms may experience atopic dermatitis because of breastfeeding and breast pumping; they often develop flaky and crusty skin around their nipples.
