Aids in Protein Formation
Magnesium is a cofactor in the formation of proteins. Without magnesium, protein synthesis would not be possible. In addition, magnesium is an activator for essential enzymes involved in energy production and muscle contraction. Magnesium regulates water balance.
In addition to its role in protein synthesis, magnesium is essential in DNA and RNA production and bone health. Magnesium is also necessary for muscle function; without sufficient levels of this mineral present within the cells’ mitochondria—the “powerhouses” of every cell—the muscles would fail to contract properly.
