Bloody or Green-Colored Sputum
Sputum is a mixture of mucus, saliva, and dead cells that the body produces when a person coughs. The color of sputum can vary from clear to white, yellow, or green. Green sputum indicates infection. It can indicate a lung infection like pneumonia or bronchitis. Other symptoms of pneumonia include fever and chills, cough with thick mucus production (purulent), chest pain when taking a deep breath (pleuritic), rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (dyspnea), and fatigue.
