Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative colitis, also known as UC, is a chronic condition that causes inflammation of the large intestine (colon). The main symptoms of UC include diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and abdominal pain. In addition to these symptoms, patients can simultaneously have other digestive system problems as they have ulcerative colitis. For example, a doctor may find that they also have conditions like Crohn’s disease or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) during an examination or test.
Patients should talk to a doctor if they think they may have any of these conditions since they can cause similar symptoms and require different treatment plans than those used for ulcerative colitis alone.
