Restless Nights
Nocturnal hypoglycemia is a condition characterized by a sudden drop in blood sugar levels at night, usually while the patient is asleep. This can happen if the patient eats too little food before bed or takes more than the prescribed amount of insulin. A patient suffering from nocturnal hypoglycemia can wake up with damp clothes and sheets because of too much sweating. Having nightmares, restless sleep, and headaches are also some of the side effects of nocturnal hypoglycemia. People who wake up tired (no matter how long they sleep) must check and monitor their blood sugar levels.
Fortunately, this can be prevented by doing some simple tricks before bedtime. First, a patient must monitor their blood sugar levels every night. Second, dinner shouldn’t be skipped, and a light snack before bed usually helps. And lastly, patients should adjust their lifestyle and try to refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol. Finally, a patient and the people around them must understand the risk factors and know what to do in case of emergencies.
