Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus is part of an evergreen tree used by the Chinese, Indian Ayurvedic, Greek, and Europeans to cure diseases by incorporating it into their treatment. Its leaves hold plant-based antioxidants, such as flavonoids and tannins. These plant-based antioxidants are utilized to reduce inflammation. It also has antimicrobial properties, which help prevent impetigo from worsening. Eucalyptus is also studied to fight against harmful bacteria. A recent study showed that it has anti-bacterial effects on pathogenic bacteria such as strains of Streptococcus.
Because of its potency, eucalyptus is not recommended to use by children and those with sensitive skin. It may cause dermatitis and skin irritation. It is also not advised to ingest eucalyptus extract since it contains toxins harmful to the body. But, in general, eucalyptus is safe. In addition, many practitioners stand by its effectiveness in treating impetigo.
