Frequent Urination
The desire to pee more often than normal is referred to as frequent urination. However, there is no universally accepted standard for what constitutes a “frequent” urination rate. Whether or not the urge to pee often is causing problems in your daily life is the most important factor in determining if you have problems with frequent urination. The term “urgent urination” refers to an urgent desire to use the bathroom. Pain or discomfort in the bladder or urethra may also be present. If you find that you need to pee often but are unable to get to a restroom in time, or if the need to urinate comes on unexpectedly, you may be suffering from frequent urination problems.
The estrogen in your body helps keep your bladder’s walls strong. As a result, if the estrogen levels are low, individuals may feel the need to urinate more often and with more urgency. The need to get up many times throughout the night to urinate has been linked to low estrogen levels. Moreover, Urology Care Foundation research found that 50 percent of men over 80 had testosterone production low enough to increase their risk of developing urinary dysfunction.
