Baking Soda
Sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda, is an important ingredient in baking and has many medical and industrial benefits. For example, this powder is used to whiten teeth, calm indigestion, neutralize bad breath, clean sinks, polish cookware, and many more. In addition, several studies found baking soda as an effective remedy against oropharyngeal candidiasis and esophageal candidiasis.
A study in 2009 proved the effectiveness of baking soda as a disinfectant. The methodology focused on baking soda’s ability to clean dentures without harming them. This study highlighted the potential of baking soda as an effective and viable alternative remedy for oral problems like thrush. In 2019, another notable study was conducted to test the potential of baking soda to treat thrush, which yielded impressive results. The study showed that baking soda significantly reduces the adherence of the said fungal infection on the surface of the affected area. Furthermore, the study showed that a higher concentration of baking soda has an antimicrobial effect that fights off several harmful microorganisms, such as Candida albicans.
Dissolve one tablespoon of baking soda in a cup of lukewarm water and use the solution as a mouthwash. Spit the solution and rinse with warm water. Do not ingest or swallow the solution.
