10 Natural Remedies For Teeth Whitening (At Home)

Activated Charcoal

Charcoal is highly absorbent. Because of this property, it is believed to eliminate stains and pigments in the teeth. There is also literature claiming its ability to eliminate toxins and harmful bacteria in the oral cavity. A study conducted in 2019 claimed that toothpaste with active charcoal could lessen the yellow stains from tea and coffee after 4 to 5 weeks of use. The study tested its effectiveness on dentures and real teeth, and the results are promising.

To use this method, pour the content of a capsule of activated charcoal into a container and use a toothbrush to spread it in the teeth. Start by making gentle circular motions on the outer and inner surfaces of the teeth; be careful near the gums, cheeks, and tongue to avoid cuts. Then, spit it out. For those with sensitive teeth and gums, dabbing the activated charcoal on their teeth and leaving it there for a few minutes can also be effective.

Another way is mixing activated charcoal with water and using the solution as a mouthwash. First, swish the solution for three to four minutes, ensuring it reaches the cracks and spaces of the teeth. And then, spit out the solution and gargle with water thoroughly.
