Neti Pot
A neti pot is a ceramic or plastic vessel that allows you to pour the saline solution into one nostril and let it drain through the other. This gentle irrigation can help relieve sinus pressure and congestion. There are many different recipes for saline solution, but a simple mixture of one-half teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of lukewarm distilled water should suffice for most people’s needs.
Your mucous membranes in your nostrils and throat may stay irritated from the infection for a few days, during which time you should avoid touching them as much as possible, particularly with your fingers. You may use a cloth instead.
Even so, you can use a disposable plastic spoon to rinse your sinuses until they’ve returned to normal gently. Many people find that the process becomes easier with practice, allowing them to avoid taking medications that might have side effects.
