Geranium Oil
When you think of geranium oil, you might envision the beautiful pink flowers that line your grandmother’s porch. But did you know that this fragrant plant has a long history of being used for its healing properties? Geranium oil is still used to treat various ailments, including poison ivy.
So, what makes geranium oil so special? For starters, it’s rich in antioxidants, which help to scavenge free radicals and protect cells from damage. Geranium oil is also anti-inflammatory and antiseptic, which is why it effectively treats wounds and skin infections.
But perhaps most importantly, geranium oil contains tannic acid, which is known to help treat poison ivy. When exposed to poison ivy, your skin comes into contact with urushiol, an oily resin that triggers an immune response. This response manifests itself as an itchy rash with blisters. Tannic acid helps to dry out these blisters and alleviate the itchiness associated with poison ivy. Geranium oil is generally safe for most people when used as directed. However, some people may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions such as rashes, hives, or difficulty breathing.
