Petroleum Jelly
Petroleum jelly is an excellent remedy for lice, but only if someone has a small amount of hair. If a person has thick or curly hair, petroleum jelly will not work. It suffocates the lice and kills them off as well. However, if the hair is long and full enough to cover most of their scalp with it or if their hair is thin enough that most of the scalp is uncovered, this remedy might be right for them.
Some people find that using petroleum jelly leaves their hair greasy after washing out of their head (though some may think they look greasy). You can remedy this by applying a regular conditioner while washing out the jellied petroleum strands with shampoo. Make sure to rinse thoroughly so there are no sticky remnants left behind.
