Vitamin B6
Some studies have shown that vitamin B6 may also treat CTS effectively. Vitamin B6 is involved in nerve function and has analgesic properties. It is a water-soluble vitamin found in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, spinach, and other fruits and vegetables. Vitamin B6 is also necessary to form hemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. Vitamin B6 is also involved in sugar metabolism and helps to maintain healthy nerve function.
Taking 50 to 100 mg of vitamin B6 daily can help relieve carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms such as swelling and pain. Vitamin B6 supplements are usually well tolerated with few side effects.
One study found that vitamin B6 improved symptoms of CTS better than placebo. The study also found that people with higher levels of vitamin B6 were less likely to develop CTS. Patients who take 100 to 200 mg of vitamin B6 daily for 12 weeks have seen significant improvements in their symptoms. In many cases, the symptoms of CTS disappear entirely.
