What Are The Triggers Of Eye Pain? 14 Common Causes

Stye

A stye is a pimple-like bump that usually appears at the edge of the eyelids. It can form inside or outside the eye’s surface and contains pus, a white or yellowish sticky discharge. It is contagious and can affect the other eye. The bacteria can be transmitted through eye-to-hand contact, enabling it to spread from one person to another.

When a person develops stye, the eye’s tiny oil glands get blocked by germs causing the skin near the eyelashes to get infected and inflamed. Home remedies can eliminate stye, as it only lasts a few days. Signs of having stye are a painful red bump on the eyelid(s), eye tearing, itchiness, soreness, and the feeling of having a foreign object inside the eyes.

One can prevent stye through proper eye care and hygiene. Sanitize often and avoid touching the eyes with dirty or contaminated hands. Washing off makeup from the face and avoiding wearing it overnight is necessary. Discarding old cosmetics is also suggested, as it can allow bacteria to grow and spread. Rubbing of the eyes is discouraged if one has allergies.
