Obesity
Women who are overweight or obese are at higher risk of uterine enlargement. For very heavy women, the risk of an enlarged uterus and the formation of fibroids is two to three times greater than the average.
Determining whether uterine enlargement is caused by obesity in heavyset women can be challenging. In this case, uterine enlargement is accidentally detected during a routine pelvic examination. However, women above their average weight are more likely to have significant uterine growth due to developing two or more fibroids.
If the sudden weight gain is accompanied by bloating, constipation, and other urinary symptoms, these are tell-tale signs that an overweight or obese woman may be dealing with an enlarged uterus.
When left untreated, an enlarged uterus can directly affect a woman’s weight and other vital organs, including the bladder and the lungs. In addition, overweight or obese women with the enlarged uterus are more vulnerable to developing blood clots.
Women must seek medical advice if they notice an unusual bulge resembling pregnancy. Weight loss, lifestyle changes, and certain medications can manage uterine enlargement in overweight or obese women.
