Yeast Infection
Yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is a single-celled fungus that is reproduced through fission (a division of the cell into equal parts) or budding (growth and separation of the parent cell). It is used for making wine, brewing, cooking, and baking. Furthermore, a certain yeast called candida can be found in some areas of the body, especially in moist and wet surfaces (like the mouth, throat, vagina, or gut).
Oral candidiasis (sometimes called oral thrush) occurs when yeast infections develop on the surface of the mouth or lips. Signs of yeast infection include white patches on the lips, soreness, reddish spots on the corners of the lips, dryness, and small cuts on the corners of the mouth. Sometimes, the infection reaches the tongue, so swallowing food is almost hard. People who acquire yeast infection on the lips have difficulty eating, drinking, and speaking; some even lose their sense of taste. The pain starts from mild to gradually severe when left untreated.
