Inability to Pass Gas

The production of gas and passing it is normal and part of digestion. Passing gas for about 15 to 20 times a day is considered normal. Gas affects the body in two ways: excessive release or inability to pass gas. Both may have been caused by an underlying condition that requires the help of a medical professional or immediate medication. The gas trapped inside the body could result in sharp, stabbing, and stinging pain in the abdomen and other parts of the stomach. The stomach might get bloated and experience severe cramps. It could get really uncomfortable and extremely painful. In addition, the inability to release gas is a symptom of intestinal blockage. When the digestive tract or the intestines are blocked by any substance (liquid or solid), the food, fluids, gas, and waste (such as stool) cannot pass through, thus the cause of recurring pain in the abdomen. When this trapped gas gathers on the left or right side of the colon, it may radiate up the chest and other parts of the body and could lead to other severe medical conditions.
