Isotretinoin
An oral retinoid is a potent medication for the most severe forms of acne. The decrease in the size of the oil gland caused by isotretinoin contributes to acne development.
Vitamin A is used to make the drug isotretinoin (Amnesteem, Claravis, etc.). They may be recommended if other medications haven’t helped someone with moderate to severe acne. It is a strong oral retinoid used to treat severe cystic and acne. Moreover, patients should avoid vitamin A supplements on isotretinoin since they may cause vitamin A toxicity.
Depression, severe birth abnormalities, and inflammatory bowel disease are possible adverse effects. Therefore, everyone using isotretinoin is required to take part in a risk management program that the FDA has authorized.
On the other hand, isotretinoin functions by reducing the production of face oil (sebum). Severe acne can be brought on by excessive sebum production and may cause scars if treatment is neglected.
It might require two months before getting the full effects of this medicine, and the acne can get worse during the first few days of use. After two months since the last treatment, patients may begin the second round of therapy if severe acne reappears. Isotretinoin is not recommended for long-term use.
