12 Natural (At Home) Remedies For Acid Reflux

Ginger

Another effective home remedy for acid reflux is ginger. A central ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine, ginger, in small doses, will act as an anti-inflammatory substance that can help stave off the symptoms and effects of acid reflux. In addition, ginger is rich in antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation and swelling in the esophageal region that strong gastric acids produce.

The presence of phenolic compounds in ginger has also been found to reduce gastric contractions, which can cause acids to creep towards the esophagus. These substances also reduce inflammation and prevent nausea, swelling, and muscle pain.

Doctors suggest peeling, grating, and steeping in water to make ginger tea and drinking a cup once or twice daily. People can also shave small amounts of fresh ginger and chew it to release the various compounds which could help relieve acid reflux symptoms. However, as is the common practice, doctors warn against eating ginger too much. Instead, they suggest taking ginger in moderation, especially if the body manifests adverse side effects such as bloating or gas.
