Neisseria Gonorrhoeae
The bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a sexually transmitted infection. It can cause infections in various mucous membranes, such as the throat, urethra, and rectum. The mode of transmission is through sexual contact with an infected individual. Neisseria gonorrhoeae can also be transmitted from mother to child during childbirth.
It causes inflammation of the mucous membranes, leading to redness and swelling of the throat, making it difficult to swallow. In some cases, a grayish-white exudate may be present on the tonsils or pharynx. Fever and chills may also occur in some individuals. Neisseria gonorrhoeae can spread to other body parts through the bloodstream and cause more serious infections such as pneumonia or meningitis if left untreated.
Treatment for tonsillitis caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae involves a course of antibiotics. It is important to finish all the medicine even if an individual is feeling better so that the infection does not return. Surgery may also be necessary in severe cases where there is much tissue damage, or other treatments have failed.
